Postgrad Republic Cafe

Postgrad Republic Café

  • Are you a new postgraduate student at the University of Birmingham?
  • Looking for a chance to meet other postgraduates online?

PG Republic Café is a chance to be ‘matched’ with other postgraduate students and take part in a relaxed, fun group call, where you can get to know each other and share your experiences of studying here so far.

Round Two opens Tuesday 20th October, and closes Thursday 5th November: sign up here!

For this round, we'll be matching up those in arts and humanities disciplines with each other, and those in scientific disciplines with each other: on the application form, you'll be asked to tell us your College, but you will also be asked which you would identify more with.

To help start your conversations, this round we are also asking groups to play Two Truths One Lie: take it in turns to tell three statements about yourself, two which are true and one of which is untrue. The rest of the group must guess which statement is the untrue one!

How do I take part?

By signing up to the café, you will be randomly matched with two other postgraduates from across the University for a 30-minute Zoom chat at a time that works for you. Arrange to bring along your favourite hot drinks, discuss your favourite films, share a book together, or just talk about where you are from and what you will be studying. It’s completely up to you!

Complete this form by 11.59pm BST Thursday 5th November to register. Once this form has closed, you'll be randomly allocated into groups and will receive an email with the names of the other people in your group by Friday 13th November. In this email, one person will be nominated to organise a Zoom meeting for the following week.
