Accessing eTextbooks
Like eBooks, eTextbooks can be accessed from FindIt@Bham. If you want to find a specific eTextbook you know we have access to, you can search for it using the main FindIt@Bham homepage. Set the Search Filter to eJournals & eBooks Only (it is set to Everything by default), type the title and author of the eTextbook in the Search bar, and press Return. Select the record for the eTextbook in the results list and click the link under View It to access it. Please note that you will need to register with Kortext on first access (see instructions under Public Notes).
If an eTextbook was requested for one of your modules, it will also be accessible from the resource list for that module. Go to ResourceLists@Bham, sign in with your University email and password, and search by module title, module code, or module lead to find the resource list associated with your module. Once on the resource list, find the title marked as Key Text and click the View Online button to access it.
Kortext
For the 2020-2021 academic year, Library Services entered into a pilot scheme with a supplier named Kortext, a provider of eTextbooks, to increase access to eResources during the coronavirus pandemic. The pilot has been extended for the 2021-2022 academic year. As part of this scheme, academics are able to select one Key Text per module and request it in eTextbook format. These eTextbooks offer unlimited access, which means all users can access them at any one time, and feature on the resource lists for which they were originally requested and on FindIt@Bham. From 2021-2022, you will also be able to access the Key Text for your module directly from the relevant module on Canvas.
