What is UBIRA?

The University of Birmingham Institutional Research Archive (UBIRA) is the open access repository for full text research materials produced by researchers at the University.

You can ensure compliance with the UKRI REF OA policy and funder open access requirements by self-archiving your work in UBIRA via Pure.

Full text open access materials in UBIRA are freely, publicly and permanently available, and support our institutional strategic goal to enhance our research power.

What is held in UBIRA?

You can find a wide variety of full text material in UBIRA. The material is held in different collections within UBIRA, depending on their type.

These include:

  • Refereed, research publications: including articles, conference papers and book chapters.
  • Working papers, technical reports and other ‘grey literature’ which have not been through formal peer review. Collections of images and conference posters would also fall into this category.
  • eTheses: full text electronic copies of theses produced by postgraduates from the University of Birmingham.

How can I search for material in UBIRA?

  • Content deposited in Pure can be searched through the Research Portal
  • Use the advance search in FindIt, and filter in ‘Search Scope’ to ‘UoB Research and Publications’.
  • Search OpenDOAR, the Directory of Open Access Repositories.
  • Use search engines such as Google Scholar (or Google).
