New guest WiFi service for campus
New guest service will provide a better wireless experience for visitors to the Edgbaston campus
IT Services are continuing to improve the digital experience at the University by launching a new guest WiFi service for visitors to campus.
UoBGuestWiFi is a new free public access network that will provide guests and visitors to the University’s Edgbaston campus with easy access to the campus WiFi. The new service will be available to use from Friday, 17 December and will replace the current WiFiGuest network which is supplied by BskyB.
The University’s Selly Oak campus and other external sites will continue to use WiFiGuest for the time being.
The new guest WiFi service is supplied and fully supported by IT Services and uses the main campus Aruba wireless network infrastructure to provide a more reliable and improved WiFi experience for guests and visitors to the University.
To access the internet through the service guests will need to register first. Registration lasts for 12 hours after which time guests will need to re-register when they connect again.
For guidance on how to use UoBGuestWiFi please visit our Knowledge Base article KB14144 where you’ll find a detailed walkthrough of how to register and connect to the service.
UoBGuestWiFi is complementary to our existing WiFi services. If you are a current member of staff or a student you should continue to use eduroam as your primary WiFi connection.
