Do you need permission to dig on campus?

Whether you are erecting a temporary fence, putting in a tent peg or doing any activity that means you are going 30cm or more into the ground on campus, you need to get permission.

The new process of gaining permission is being introduced in order to safeguard both those ‘digging’ and also campus users and infrastructure. There are a wide variety of services such as water, gas, electricity underground, so it is critical that before any work is undertaken, we know what is underneath.

So, if you think you need a permit to dig, your first step should always be to contact Kevin Cotterill or Marcus Vaughan in Estates at least seven days before your planned activity. They can then work with you to ensure your activities can be safely carried out.
