Reach Respect: Free relationship safety training with Women's Aid

Healthy relationships shouldn’t be a guessing game and everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. That’s why Women’s Aid are coming to campus to deliver Reach Respect, a free, interactive training session designed specifically for University of Birmingham students.

Whether you’re thinking about your own relationships, want to feel more confident supporting friends, or are considering a future career in healthcare, teaching, social work, or any role that involves supporting others, this session gives you practical skills you can use right away.

What the session covers

During the workshop, you’ll explore:

  • How to recognise the signs of domestic abuse, including coercive control
  • What healthy, respectful relationships look like
  • How to be a safe, active bystander, knowing what to do if you’re worried about someone
  • How to challenge myths and misunderstandings around abuse and harmful behaviours

The session is designed to be engaging and interactive, with activities, discussions, and real‑world scenarios. You won’t be asked to share personal experiences; the focus is on learning, confidence‑building, and creating safer communities.

When and where

Two in‑person sessions are available on Thursday 11 June 2026:

Places are free but limited. Choose the time that works best for you and book your spot to avoid missing out.

Who can attend

These sessions are open to all students of all genders. You don’t need any prior knowledge, just an interest in understanding relationships, supporting others, or contributing to a safer campus.

Why it matters

Violence against women and girls is a national crisis, and experiences of domestic abuse are far more common than many people realise. But change starts with awareness – and with communities that know how to look out for one another.

By taking part in Reach Respect, you’ll be helping to build a safer, more supportive university environment for everyone.

If you’ve been affected by any of these issues or want to learn more about available support, explore our Report + Support pages.
