The final week of UoB Xtra – here's what's on!
Week three of UoB Xtra keeps the momentum going with another packed line‑up of events – from hands‑on workshops and global career insights to creative sessions and summer music performances. Whether you’re joining online or exploring what’s happening across campus, there’s a huge variety of ways to learn something new and build your career confidence.
This week’s highlights
Monday 22 June
Monday brings another brilliant mix of online learning, creative sessions and campus activity.
If you’re joining from home, there’s a strong line‑up of online skills sessions, including Introduction to Agile Project Management, Top Tips for Using LinkedIn, Promoting Your Postgrad Skills, Profit From Your Passion, and global career insights through China Connections and Finding a Job in Your Home Country.
On campus, Junkbusters will be out across various locations collecting unwanted items as you prepare to move out – a simple way to donate and reduce waste. You can also drop into a relaxed Creative session with Pause@uni in the Main Library or explore career paths at Spotlight on Business & Finance in the Wolfson Room in the library.
Music fans can enjoy Summer Festival of Music performances in the Bramall, and the Knit and Natter afternoon at the Lapworth Museum offers a cosy, creative way to unwind.
Tuesday 23 June
Tuesday offers another great mix of big ideas, career insight and creative experiences. The Tribunal for Future Generations opens its three‑day run, exploring whether we still need to invent new materials – a standout event for anyone curious about the future of science and sustainability.
STEM PGRs and ECRs can spend the day exploring careers beyond academia, while online sessions cover everything from building your personal brand to UK job‑search skills and CV and application tips.
On campus, there’s plenty happening too: the University Music Scholars perform in the Bramall, Bread and Belief returns with another reflective session, and the CMH x Barber anatomy workshop offers a fresh creative take on anatomy. The day ends with a special sunset tour of the Lapworth Museum, a perfect way to wind down.
Wednesday 24 June
Wednesday brings another strong mix of creative workshops, career development and practical skills. The Video Content Creation Workshop runs all day for anyone looking to build their brand through video, while (not so) Artificial Intelligence offers a hands‑on look at using AI to support your skills and career.
There’s plenty online too, including China Connections for those exploring global opportunities, HSBC Smart Money on fraud awareness, and Reference Management Tools – ideal for anyone working on a dissertation.
On campus, you can explore the link between wellbeing and the environment in How Does My Inner Life Relate to the Climate Crisis?, develop your applications in Promoting Your Postgrad Skills, enjoy a brass band performance, or build confidence in public speaking.
Thursday 25 June
Thursday offers a strong mix of practical training, dissertation support and creative opportunities. The AED course runs all day for those wanting hands‑on lifesaving skills, while the Masters Dissertation Conference provides a full programme of guidance, workshops and writing support.
Online, China Connections explores STEM career pathways in China, and PGT Dissertation Conversations offers a supportive space to share challenges and solutions.
On campus, the Saxophone Choir brings a Summer Festival of Music performance outside the Bramall, and the evening session of the Tribunal for Future Generations continues the week’s big‑picture discussions on materials, innovation and the future.
Friday 26 June
Friday rounds off the week with a mix of music, global career insight and practical online support. On campus, the Summer Festival of Music Folk Band brings a lively performance to close out the afternoon.
Online, there’s a trio of career‑focused sessions: HSBC Smart Money on income and tax, an India Connections alumni panel exploring career journeys in India, and Top Tips for Interview and Assessment Centre Success for anyone preparing for applications.
A lighter day, but still full of ways to learn something useful or enjoy a moment of creativity before the weekend.
