Birmingham 2022 Legacy

The Commonwealth Games is coming to Birmingham in the summer of 2022. Taking place every four years the Commonwealth Games is a highlight of the sporting world and the University is proud to be a partner when they come to the city next year.

To celebrate the legacy planned for the Birmingham 2022 they have launched a video narrated by Birmingham’s Poet Laureate, Casey Bailey. 

Paralympic athlete and UoB student, Ali Jawad (@AliJawad12) features in the video and said ‘Having competed at three Commonwealth Games previously, I’m looking forward to competing in Birmingham as it will be a home games where my friends and family will be able to see me compete. It makes it even more special that I’m studying a PhD at Birmingham university too.’

Ali is a PhD student at the University in the College of Life and Environmental Science and is a Sports Scholar, training and receiving support at the Performance Centre in Sport & Fitness.  

Today also sees the launch of the official Birmingham 2022 mascot, Perry. Visit the Birmingham 2022 mascot website to download the Instagram filter to pose with Perry and bring him to life.  As you can see he’s already been on to campus and met Old Joe.
