Easter opening times

For students still on campus and in accommodation during the Easter period, a list of the services available at the University are outlined below including study spaces, support and catering. At the bottom of the page there are also links to local services including shops, banks, public transport and healthcare providers.

You will still be able to login to the MyUoB app and use the intranet to access all of your normal online services throughout the Easter vacation. 

The University is closed from Friday 29 March - Wednesday 3 April 2024. A majority of campus services will also be closed but some may be open or reduced as detailed below.

 Library and Study Spaces

The Main Library is open 24/7, except over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

  • Thursday 28 March: closing at 22:00
  • Friday 29 March - Monday 1 April: closed
  • Tuesday 2 April: opening at 08:00, when 24/7 hours will resume

The remote service 'Just Ask' will also be available throughout the vacation. 

All other libraries/study spaces will be closed for the closed days, but will reopen on Thurs 4 as usual. 

Westmere PGR Hub

Westmere is open until Thursday 28 March 22:00 and will reopen Thursday 4 April 06:00.

 Aston Webb Student Hub

The Aston Webb Student Hub will be closed from the 29 March until the 3 April. The Hub will re-open again on Thursday 4 April at 09:00.

Apart from the above dates the Aston Webb Student Hub will run as normal where students can drop in at any time during our opening hours:

  • Monday to Wednesday: 09:00-17:00
  • Thursday: 10:00-17:00
  • Friday: 09:00-17:00

If you are unable to attend in person and require a student ID card, please complete our request form.

During the University closed period, students will still be able to access the extensive studenthelp knowledgebase and submit an enquiry online.

Any enquiries or ID card requests submitted during the closed period will be responded to as swiftly as possible upon our return.

 International Student Team (IST)

The IST will be closed during the Easter University Closed Days and Bank holidays only.

The remaining days the IST will be open as usual - 

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 09:00 to 17:00
  • Wednesdays 13:00-17:00 only

IT Services will be closed on the University closed Easter dates -

Apart from these dates, they will open as normal Mon-Fri 09:00-17:00

 Living

All accommodation receptions will be open as normal throughout the Easter vacation. 

For out-of-hours assistance in our residences, the Vale Village reception will be open 24/7 as normal. Out-of-hours calls to Selly Oak and Pritchatts Park receptions will be diverted to the Vale reception and a member of staff will be able to attend Selly Oak and Pritchatts Park receptions if necessary.

There is also security who can be contacted by phone 24/7 on 0121 414 3000 for non-emergencies and on 0121 414 4444 in emergencies.

Food and Drink on campus

Food Fellows are responsible for the food and drink at the University. The Food Fellows team will operate reduced opening hours during term time: 

  • Library Café - 08:00-16:00 (Mon-Fri): closes 28 March and reopens 4 April.
  • Alan Walter Café - 09:00-15:00 (Mon-Fri): closes 22 March and reopens 8 April.
  • Gisbert Kapp Cafe 52 - 08:30-15:00 (Mon-Fri): closes 28 March and reopens 8 April.
  • Med School Cafe - 08:30-14:30 (Mon-Fri): closes 28 March and reopens 4 April.
  • Starbucks Muirhead - 08:00-17:00 (Mon-Fri): closes on 28 March and reopens 4 April.
  • Starbucks Brooks - 08:00-16:00 (Mon-Fri): closes on 22 March and reopens 22 April. 
  • Costa Uni Centre - 08:00-16:30 (Mon-Fri): closes on 28 March and reopens 4 April.
  • Costa Sports -  08:00-18:00 (7 days): closes on 31 March and reopens 4 April.
  • Bramall - 08:00-16:00 (Mon-Fri): closes on 28 March and reopens 4 April.

 Multi - Faith Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy will will be closed on the University closed Easter dates - 

  • Friday 29 March (Good Friday BH)
  • Monday 1 April (Easter Monday BH)
  • Tuesday 2 April (CD)
  • Wednesday 3 April (CD)

Apart from these dates, they will open as normal.

Healthcare

South Birmingham GP Walk In Centre is open 365 days a year 08:00 - 20:00, no appointment necessary. The telephone number is 0121 415 2095 and the address is 15 Katie Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham, B29 6JG.

The Accident & Emergency department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (next to the Medical School) is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Service amendments to London Midland trains are available via National Rail.

Local bus amendments are available via National Express West Midlands.

Banks on campus

External ATMs should be available 24/7.

City centre shopping centres

The bank holiday opening hours for the Bullring and Grand Central are 10:00-19:00.
