New Dean of The Birmingham International Academy

Following the appointment of the new Dean of The Birmingham International Academy, Professor Robin Mason has written a message to staff to annouce this exciting news.

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that Callum Cowell has been appointed to the role of Dean of The Birmingham International Academy.

As Dean, Callum will be responsible for the development and delivery of the strategic plan for the BIA, supporting the BIA’s contribution to the University’s 2030 strategic framework. Callum will report directly to Professor Robin Mason, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) and will be supported by a dedicated academic and professional services team.  The role will also work very closely with the Academic Registrar, PVC/Heads of College, the BIA’s Director of Operations and Development, the wider BIA management team, and the academic tutors.

Callum is currently the Director of The Centre for English Language Teaching, Study Tours and Language Testing Services at the University of Western Australia (UWA). At UWA, he has also held the role of Director of Global Engagement. Callum has extensive experience in International Education Marketing and Student Recruitment for Higher Education institutions and Government.

I am sure that you will join me in welcoming Callum to the University in Spring (UK, not Australian).

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Hayley Maxwell, Gareth Mainwaring and all the BIA Team for their significant and ongoing contribution to the BIA.  Hayley in particular has done a great job stepping up to cover the Academic Director role, working alongside Gareth in his critical role as Director of Operations and Development. Their commitment, along with the rest of colleagues in the BIA, has been greatly appreciated through the extended period of transition.

Best wishes,

Professor Robin Mason
