28 September 2022 - Contensis software update

Here are the features and fixes included in the latest website release on Wednesday 28 September 2022.

New features

Content types and entries (applies to /news /study and /jobs sections)

  • Content header (standard content) - this now accepts images up to 10MB in minimum dimensions of 1920 x 654 pixels, which results in a much sharper focus for the header image. These images are auto cropped and optimised by the CMS (no Photoshopping needed!). Also, a user is only shown the largest image necessary for their device, so mobile users will be served smaller images than desktop users.
  • Primary image (news article) - this now accepts images up to 10MB in minimum dimensions of 1920 x 746 pixels, which results in a sharper focus for the primary image. These images are auto cropped and optimised by the CMS (no Photoshopping needed!). Also, a user is only shown the largest image necessary for their device, so mobile users will be served smaller images than desktop users.
  • Featured layout (news article) - we now have the option of a 'featured layout' for news articles, which displays the primary image as a banner across the width of the page. This should only be used for Perspectives and Birmingham Brief articles. This image is also auto optimised to suit the user's device.
  • Events listing - a 'shimmer' has been added, so that the basic layout of the component loads before the data is retrieved, to give confidence to users on slower connections.
  • Subject area landing page - delivery fomat has been added as a filter option, so that we can display a list of online subject areas
  • Image with text (standard content) - text is now vertically aligned against the image on desktop
