Preparing for your thesis submission event

 

Research Student Administration (RSA) run two 'preparing for your thesis submission' events each year (usually in May and November). These are aimed at Postgraduate Researchers who are due to submit their thesis in the next 12 months. RSA run both an in person and online event, details of what to expect from these events, along with material from the previous events, can be found below.  Our next events will take place in May 2025. Please find details below.

Attendance at the events will give you the opportunity to ask questions and receive advice from the Research Student Administration team on the below: 

  • How to submit your thesis 

  • Alternative formats 

  • Viva examination 

  • Corrections and resubmission 

  • Requirements for award 

  • Continuation fees 

  • Word counts

As well as Research Student Administration, staff from other University services with involvement in the thesis submission process and beyond are also present should you have any questions about the services they offer. These include:

In person event

We are only running an online event in October 2025, our next in person event is likely to take place in May 2026. Please have a look at the section below, 'Material from May's event', to see materials from the online event that took place on Tuesday 20 May 2025.

Our next event will be taking place on Tuesday 28th October 2025.

You can sign up for the event here.

There will be a series of pre-recorded and live presentations from various University services who have an involvement in the thesis submission process and beyond.

This includes one presented by Research Student Administration which will take you through the submission process including intention to submit, submission forms, how to submit, alternative formats, viva examinations, corrections and resubmission, thesis binding, requirements for award, continuation fee and word limit.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions through the Q&A service after each presentation regarding the services each area offers.

Who can attend?

If you are a PGR whose thesis submission deadline falls within the next 12 months you will receive an email inviting you to the next event. However, all PGRs and staff who deal with PGR-related activity are welcome to come along to the event to ask any questions they may have and meet the teams.
