Impartiality, sustainability and careers
Careers Network is committed to supporting the full range of aspirations within our student and graduate community. We provide an impartial service that enables individuals to make informed choices by giving them access to employers and professional organisations that comply with our terms of advertising. These terms help us uphold a duty of care and ensure that students and graduates have access to a wide variety of opportunities that meet employment law and University regulations. Opportunities coming directly via our main third-party vacancy provider ‘Target Connect’ have also been screened and confirmed as legitimate.
We empower students and graduates to make well‑informed career decisions and to explore diverse routes and pathways aligned with their knowledge, attributes, skills, and experiences. Impartiality is a core principle of our work, however, we recognise that in some cases our engagement with certain industries or organisations may not fully align with an individual’s personal values or ethics. To serve the breadth of aspirations across our community, we do not impose blanket bans on specific organisations, industries, or regions unless required by broader political circumstances or University policy.
As a member of the Graduate Futures Institute, Careers Network’s service is also guided by the GFI Code of Ethics.
Sustainability
Careers Network is a legacy member of the Sustainable Recruitment Alliance, a network of employers and universities committed to adopting more environmentally responsible approaches to early‑talent recruitment.
When employers register with our career management system (for promoting vacancies and events) we highlight their sustainability credentials by asking targeted questions about their environmental commitments, including green initiatives and Net Zero strategies.
We are also committed to delivering more sustainable events and activities. This includes minimising or eliminating paper resources, avoiding plastic giveaways and disposable cups, and ensuring that catering and refreshments follow environmentally responsible practices. These measures support the University’s wider sustainability agenda and are regularly communicated to our employer partners. Our ongoing involvement with Green Impact further shapes our work.
