EDI Training Courses

The three courses below can be completed via Canvas at your own pace and are designed to provide students with skills to navigate a highly diverse campus, where students have a wide range of views and interests.

Student Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion 

The aim of the course is to equip you with awareness and skills to help you navigate the multi-cultural environment at UoB, and enhance your career. The course has been co-designed by staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds, drawing on some of the latest academic research. 

Participation on this course contributes towards the Birmingham Award. The award allows students to gain recognition for the opportunities that they undertake outside of their studies.

Participants can complete this course individually, however your Personal Tutors will be on hand for help and guidance.

Consent Matters 

Consent Matters is our new, fully interactive online course to help all students to understand sexual consent, boundaries, respect and bystander or positive intervention. 

This course is for you if:

  • You are, or ever have been, dating or in a relationship
  • You want to be dating or in a relationship one day
  • You have friends or relatives who are dating or in relationships
  • You're married or in a long-term relationship
  • None of the above

Sex isn't for everyone, but everyone can benefit from learning about consent. It's important for everyone to understand consent so that we can look out for each other and live in safer, happier communities.

Participation and engagement with this course and content is strongly recommended and encouraged for all students.

Total course length is about 1 hour. Please ensure that you only use the link for the College you are enrolled in as a student.

Freedom of Speech 

The aim of this course is to ensure that we all understand what Freedom of Speech means at University, and how that contributes to the importance of free and open debate in higher education.  Universities in the UK are required to protect freedom of speech and this short course raises awareness of the issues.
