Supervising PGRs

Supervising PGRs is a two and a half hour training course for new PGR supervisors and established PGR supervisors new to the University of Birmingham. 

The aims of the course are to ensure that participants:

• are familiar with University Regulations and Codes of Practice relating to PGR supervision
• understand the role and responsibilities of the supervisor
• are well-placed to support PGRs throughout the process of designing, conducting and writing up their research
• have strategies for dealing with common problems in PGR supervision
• are able to signpost and access further information as required 

The course will cover:

• key points in the PGR journey, from application and admission through to submission and examination
• support services and training opportunities available to PGRs
• the research ethics review process
• University Codes of Practice and Regulations relating to PGR supervision
• the role and responsibilities of the supervisor 
• mental health awareness

Note that this course is specifically for new supervisors and supervisors new to the University.

Supervisor refresher training
