Get paid to make decisions: BEEL is looking for student volunteers
Are you looking to earn some extra cash over the summer? You may want to check out opportunities at the Birmingham Experimental Economics Laboratory, better known as BEEL.
Based in Birmingham Business School at University House, BEEL runs paid economics experiments exploring how people make decisions. The best part? You don’t need any special skills, economics knowledge, or previous experience to take part.
What to expect
Most BEEL experiments involve computer-based decision tasks and surveys, and usually last between one and two hours. They’re designed to be straightforward and accessible, and most students say they enjoyed the experience and would be happy to return.
On average, you can expect to earn around £10–£12.50 per session – payments vary depending on the experiments.
Sessions mostly run on weekdays during standard university working hours, although some may take place in the evenings or at weekends.
You can take part in as many different studies as you like, but you can only complete each unique experiment once, in line with research standards.
Why and how to take part
As well as getting paid, you’ll be supporting important UoB research that influences teaching, policy and real‑world change across lots of different sectors.
Register to be added to BEEL’s online recruitment system, SONA, where you can view upcoming studies, available sessions, and experiment details through a calendar and dashboard.
