What is Easter and how is it celebrated?

Easter is one of the most important holidays in the Christian calendar. It commemorates the belief that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected, symbolising renewal and hope.

Today, Easter is also celebrated more widely beyond religious traditions. For many people in the UK, it is a chance to enjoy the long bank holiday weekend, spend time with family and friends and take part in seasonal traditions such as Easter egg hunts and exchanging chocolate eggs.
