UoB Xtra bookings have begun!

From 8-27 June, you’ll find a whole programme of activities designed to help you unwind, build your skills, and make the most of the post‑assessment period. Alongside your course commitments and University‑led opportunities, UoB Xtra brings a burst of energy to campus with events, workshops, and ways to get involved.

Here’s a taste of what’s coming up for you to unwind, connect, and learn.

Unwind

Fun on the Green Heart: 8–12 June
If you’ve been to UoB Xtra before, you’ll know we don’t hold back on the fun. Expect inflatables, games, and plenty of activities to help you decompress — sunshine not guaranteed, but enthusiasm definitely is.

Outdoor cinema: 8–12 June
Free films, fresh air, and summer vibes. We’ll be hosting outdoor cinema screenings on the Green Heart and you can help choose the films! Head to the @UniBirmingham Instagram story poll on Tuesday 17 March to cast your vote.

Careers on the Green: 8–12 June
The Careers Network team will be out on the Green Heart with a fun, future‑focused careers game, a free selfie station, and (if you’re quick!) free ice creams. It’s a relaxed way to meet the Careers team and think about your next steps.

Pause@Uni

  • Creative Pop‑Up at the Medical School: 9 June, 12:00–14:00
    Join Pause at the Medical School for a relaxed creative session in the Med Café.
  • Library Lounge Takeover: 10 & 17 June, 13:00–16:00
    Enjoy the friendliest vibes on campus as Pause transforms the Library Lounge into a calm space for creative, and wellbeing‑focused activities.
  • Block Party: 16 June, 12:00–16:00
    Head to the Wellbeing Lodge by North Gate for an old‑school sports day packed with games, freebies, and fun.

Summer Festival of Music: 17–26 June
The festival opens with a brass band performance on the Green Heart at 17:30 on 17 June, followed by a fantastic programme of concerts across campus and in the Elgar Concert Hall. Explore events here.

Global Celebration: Tuesday 9 June, 11:00-17:00
Celebrate our diverse global community with performances, film screenings, and free activities across campus. A brilliant way to unwind and connect with others.

Campus 3K (Your Way!): Wednesday 10 June, 10:00-14:00
The Campus 3K returns! Run, jog, walk, or stroll — it’s all about taking part and enjoying the community spirit. Booking opens after Easter, so keep an eye out.

PGT Dissertation Conversations: 9 June, 11:00–12:30
Are you a postgraduate taught student feeling daunted by your dissertation or curious how others are approaching theirs? Join this supportive session to share experiences and reflect on your next steps.

Masters Consultancy Challenge: 8-26 June
Work in interdisciplinary teams to tackle a real business challenge in an intensive three‑week programme. It’s a hands‑on introduction to consultancy — applications close 3 May.

The Birmingham Project: 8–12 June (first‑year undergraduates)
Work with fellow students and employer partners — including Birmingham City FC, Condé Nast, and Siemens — to develop innovative solutions to social and environmental challenges. It’s a great way to build teamwork and enterprise skills. Applications open 30 March 2026.

Learn

EPS Leading in Science & Engineering: 11-12 June
This interactive workshop will introduce you to some of the key leadership skills that are required for effective careers in Engineering and Physical Sciences, delivered with industry experts.

Presenting with Confidence: Wednesday 17 June, 12:00-13:00
This interactive workshop will help you develop a confident, engaging presentation style — perfect for interviews, assessments, or pitching ideas.

BEAR Challenge 2026: 17-19 June
Have you got what it takes to tackle real world computing problems? This supercomputing challenge for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students starts with a crash course for beginners, ready for challenges in conjunction with industry experts!

This is just the beginning. The Careers Network will be rolling out a whole series of skills and employability events over the summer – from practical workshops to confidence‑boosting sessions designed to help you feel ready for whatever comes next.
