University of Birmingham named Daily Mail University of the Year 2027

If you've ever felt proud to say, "I study at Birmingham", here's another reason why.

The University of Birmingham has been named Daily Mail University of the Year 2027!

The title recognises excellence across student experience, graduate outcomes, innovation and investment, and comes at a time when Birmingham is receiving growing national recognition for what it offers students.

In the 2026 National Student Survey, Birmingham was ranked first in the Russell Group, with student satisfaction reaching a record 87.4% – the highest score in UoB’s history.

Preparing you for your future

The award also recognises Birmingham's focus on helping students succeed after graduation. Whether it's building skills for the workplace, gaining real-world experience or exploring career options, you’re supported to make the most of your time at university and beyond.

Birmingham is also being recognised for the way it's preparing you for the future. From the pioneering Year in Computer Science programme to the new Ad Alta curriculum framework, the University is helping you develop not only academic knowledge, but also digital skills, employability, confidence and the ability to use AI responsibly.

Investing in the University

There's been major investment beyond the classroom too. Developments such as the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus are creating new opportunities for learning, research and innovation, helping connect students with work that's making a real difference in the world.

A strong year for UoB

The University has also climbed seven places in the latest Daily Mail University Guide, moving from 20th to 13th nationally.

Professor Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, said:

"Being named Daily Mail University of the Year 2027 is a wonderful recognition of Birmingham's commitment to excellence across education, research, innovation and student experience."

Awards don't define a university, but they do tell a story. This one recognises the quality of the experience Birmingham offers and the direction the University is heading in.

So whether you're getting ready for your first semester, returning to campus or counting down to graduation, it's something you can feel proud of: your university has just been named University of the Year.
