Don't miss out, book your UoB Xtra events and activities today
Whether you’re looking to unwind after exams or to have some fun before you focus on your dissertation/projects, we’ve got you.
From Monday 9 - Friday 27 June 2025, ‘UoB Xtra’ is back offering a relaxed and fun environment where you can meet people with similar interests, share experiences, and build connections that could last a lifetime.
Over the three weeks, all students can enjoy a programme of free awesome events and activities, such as…
Our Outdoor Cinema
Back by popular demand, we’re putting together an exciting programme of films for you to enjoy across the first week. Last year, students enjoyed an eclectic selection of films including Mamma Mia, Cars, Shrek 2 and Bend it like Beckham – all chosen by you. What would you like to see during the first week of UoB Xtra? Keep an eye out on the University of Birmingham’s Instagram channel to find out how you can vote for this year’s films.
Campus 3K Your Way
What better way to get some fresh air than to take part in our Campus 3K? Registrations for a free place are now open for this year’s 3K taking place on Wednesday 11 June. Once registered, you’ll be sent further information at the end of May, including details on how you can be one of the 125 students or 125 staff to receive a limited-edition t-shirt celebrating our 125th anniversary!
Last year, hundreds of staff and students took the route - running, walking, jogging or skipping - around our Edgbaston campus. Our Campus 3K is suitable for wheelchair users. How will you do the 3K this year?
The Big Birthday Bash
That’s right, it’s our birthday and you’re all invited! To celebrate our 125th anniversary, come along and enjoy a wide selection of party games and inflatables, plus other free activities during the first week of UoB Xtra. Bring your pals or come on your own, just don’t miss out on the fun!
Global celebration

With students hailing from every corner of the globe, join us on Tuesday 10 June for a day of events and activities to recognise our vibrant and diverse student community! Plans for the day are being confirmed (find out how you or your society can get involved) but you can enjoy a variety of energetic performances and fun workshops that showcase the unique heritage of our global family.
Ten Talks
Inspired by TED-talks, our free ‘Ten Talks’ address some big questions, drawing on the research and experiences of leading University of Birmingham researchers and high-profile speakers.
Sessions for this year include:
Sessions are free, and you can attend as many as you want. See you there!
Making Xtra Connections
We know that from previous student feedback that meeting people and forging friendships is important to you during your time at UoB. Whether you're a first-year student or nearing graduation, there's something for everyone during UoB Xtra to make new friends. View the full programme on our What’s On during UoB Xtra page.
Alongside our usual UoB Xtra programme, this year we’re currently planning some ‘Xtra’ events and activities focussed on meeting new people outside of your course with similar interests and reconnecting with friends following a busy semester. These fun and interactive sessions and social gatherings will be another perfect opportunity to expand your social circle, share experiences, and build meaningful friendships that will enhance your university journey.
Look out for more information on these events and activities in May.
