Join our Student Content Shaper scheme this summer

Meet some of our current Student Content Shapers

Looking for a fun summer job?

We’re looking to recruit a small number of students to join our established Student Content Shaper (SCS) scheme from July.

Our Student Content Shapers are a group of creative students who we (the Student Communications Team) hire to make authentic content about life at UoB. Through TikTok trends, YouTube vlogs, day in the life Reels and blogs, our Content Shapers bring you relatable, informative, funny and inspirational content to help you through your uni years.

We currently have a diverse team of around 20 students but we’re looking to add to the team over the summer to give new students the warmest welcome possible.

From capturing campus life to spotlighting key Welcome events, the content you’ll create will help incoming students (undergraduate and postgraduate) feel excited, informed and ready to start their new UoB journey.

By becoming a Student Content Shaper you’ll…

  • Be paid above the National Living Wage, no matter your age, for the content you create. On top of this, you accrue holiday pay for every hour that you work.
  • Have the opportunity to develop and showcase your creative skills, with guidance and support from the Student Communications Team.
  • Get the chance work on your own or with other students on a number of fun briefs.

Whether you’re into video editing, TikTok trends, writing blogs or being on camera, we want to hear from you!

How to apply

This role is open for continuing undergraduates and postgraduate students.

Please only apply if you’re available between July-October to carry out this assignment. There’ll be days where you’ll need to be on campus to film content.

If you can meet these requirements, email studentcommunications@contacts.bham.ac.uk ('Application: Student Content Shaper’ as the subject line) with a short cover letter that highlights why you’re interested in the role and the relevant skills and experience you have. Links to your active social media profiles where you have created content are also helpful.

Applicants will also be expected to produce an example piece of content filmed on campus such as a day in the life of a UoB student. You can be as creative as you like but this should be filmed in portrait (for Instagram or TikTok) and videos should be under 1.30 seconds. You can attach your video as a SharePoint or WeTransfer link within your cover letter.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Friday 23 May 2025.

Interview process

Successful applicants will be invited to an informal online interview weeks commencing 26 May and 2 June.

Students who are hired will need to be available to come onto campus week commencing 9 June to allow us to carry out Right to Work Checks in person at the Worklink Hub (University Centre).

We will also arrange for you to attend a one-hour online training session before your assignment starts in July for which you’ll be paid for.
