You Said, We Did: our response to your feedback

We are always searching for ways to improve the student experience at UoB so listening to and responding to your feedback is very important to us. Below, we're sharing some of the things that we’ve already done but are continuing to make improvements.

Assessments

As a result of your feedback, a new academic year model was implemented in September 2023 to shorten the January assessment period and to give students a longer break over the festive period.

To increase the support you receive with assessments, we have brought in an Assessment Support Week in week 6 for the majority of programmes and more formative assignments on modules so you can receive guidance prior to deadlines. There are also greater opportunities to receive feedback on drafted work before submission deadlines. Staggered deadlines now aim to reduce the pressure of assessment periods and ‘assessment submissions windows’ have been introduced on most programmes to encourage more flexibility.

Academic Development and Professional Skills

In response to student feedback for more support on preparing you for the next stage of your academic lives and careers, we're making some exciting changes to the summer term. We're launching a new programme of learning and development activities for all students to enhance your knowledge and skills, and help you reach your goals as a continuing student or as a graduate.

There'll be subject-specific academic transition support to prepare you for the next year, careers workshops and professional skills short courses to enhance your CV. There's also an opportunity for students to do something 'Xtra' - whether that's taking part in events and activities, developing skills, or meeting new people. Watch for more on the Summer Term and UoB Xtra.

Teaching and Learning

We have re-introduced mid and end-of-module questionnaires to give you the opportunity to tell us where you need more support in your learning journey. This helps us to act on any changes that you want to see during the term. We have also worked with the Guild of Students to improve training for student representatives and to ensure there is a rapid academic response to issues you may raise.

Have your say

Do you have feedback on your experience at UoB? Then look out for ways to have your say this February through national student surveys. Your opinions matter to us and as a thank you for your time and feedback, we're awarding students with a chance to win a cash prize. Keep an eye on your emails.

There are also ongoing opportunities to influence decision making at UoB; join the Student Corner or the Student Reps Scheme.
