Learn a new language for free

Want to learn a new language or refresh your skills? UoB’s Languages for All programme is offering free language courses to all students for the 2025–26 academic year. 

Choose from nine languages — including Arabic, Chinese Mandarin, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish— with options for beginners and beyond. It’s a great way to boost your CV, connect with other cultures and meet new people. 

Before you apply 

• The courses are open to all students subject to availability and fulfilment of Terms and conditions.  
• Spaces are limited and applying does not guarantee a space.   
• You should receive a notification via your UoB email during Welcome Week if you’ve been allocated a space in the language class. All classes are delivered on campus and start in Week 1.   
• If you get a space, the language class will appear on your timetable. If it clashes with your main degree modules, you may need to withdraw from the language course. 
• Only apply if you can commit to the full academic year of language study.
