Burglar-proof your house for the Christmas period

Heading home this weekend now that term has ended? Before you rush off to enjoy the festive break and time with loved ones, securely lock your front door and ensure your valuables are out of sight! Expensive laptops and gadgets left on view whilst you’re away can be ideal targets for burglars.

The best way to protect your shared homes over this period is to ensure your doors and windows are closed and locked, especially those on the ground floor or with accessible ledges. If the locks on these openings are not sturdy, please do speak to your landlord to get them upgraded. You can also pick up window and door alarms from the Community Safety Hub for an added layer of security.

If you’re not taking your valuables with you, keep them out of view in drawers and cupboards. Also, by putting a sticker, distinctive mark such as your engraved name, or recording the serial number of devices on your technology, it can make them easier to recover in the case of theft. It’s also a good idea to cover your possessions with insurance if you ever needed to replace them.

It’s better to be safe than sorry. For anymore security advice and support, the Community Safety Hub is open until Wednesday 20 December 2023 and will reopen Tuesday 2 January 2024. In the meantime, the Security Services are contactable.
