What would £1,000 mean to you? Hear from previous UoB winners of Brighter Futures Grants
With the cost of living continuing to challenge students across the UK, a little financial breathing room can go a long way. That’s why the Santander Brighter Futures Grants are back this autumn, offering ten University of Birmingham students the chance to win £1,000 each.
And if you’re wondering whether people actually win? They do. Just ask Daisy, Caitlyn and Tobias, three UoB students who received the grant previously and made the most of their £1,000 boost.

How to apply
It’s quick, free, and open to all UoB students: undergrad, postgrad, full-time or part-time, UK or international. You don’t even need to bank with Santander.
- Register for Santander Open Academy, a free online learning platform.
- Verify your account via the confirmation email.
- Log in, select ‘Get Started’ and choose University of Birmingham.
- Submit your entry by 11pm on 27 November 2025.
Every student who registers also gets free access to thousands of online learning and development resources through Santander Open Academy.
