Digital Research Conversations – Software Licensing

Three Minute Thesis: Vote for Your People’s Choice Winner!

On Wednesday 17 May, The University Graduate School (UGS) crowned the University of Birmingham Three Minute Thesis winner for 2023, who will go on to represent UoB in the national finals. Find out more about the grand final and our judges’ winners.

Postgraduate Research Festival: Announcing our Keynotes!

With just a month to go until the biggest postgraduate event of the year, we’re delighted to announce our two Keynote Speakers at the Postgraduate Research Festival, 27-28 June 2023.

Join us in the Teaching & Learning Building to hear from our key note speakers who are distinguished academics at different stages of their research careers. Each will discuss the journey of their research and the unexpected paths a life in research can take.

  • Tuesday 27 June - Dr. Synda Obaji Assistant Professor in Energy Law whose work has been cited by the United Nations Human Rights Council,
  • Wednesday 28 June - Prof. Janet Lord CBE, an internationally-renowned and award-winning Professor of Immune Cell Biology.

Postgraduate Summer Events

UGS has opened its summer programme for bookings! Online and in-person PGT events include dedicated dissertation PGT Essentials workshops and co-working sessions, PGT Short Story Club, and a summer party to celebrate the end of the year: PGTs book your place! Online distance learning PGTs can also sign up for our online Match & Meet socials.

PGRs book your place to join our PGR summer social, PGR Film Club, Lunch Club, and Academic English workshops. Our last mental health workshop of the year focuses on stress management and is open to all postgraduates.

Parents and Carers Fortnight: Free drinks vouchers and family events!

UGS is also supporting Postgraduates as part of Parents and Carers Fortnight, 29 May – 9 June. If you are a postgraduate who is also a parent or carer, pop along to Westmere House (G15 on the campus map) between 10am-4pm on any weekday to receive free drinks vouchers for any campus outlet: perfect if you’re visiting one of the many family events across campus included in the Parents & Carers Fortnight calendar of events.

PGR parents and carers are also warmly invited to bring their families to our PGR Lunch Club on Tuesday 6 June at Westmere House: enjoy our beautiful gardens and historic buildings at this child-friendly social, with lunch on us! Book your places now.
