Blood Cancer UK open access policy

The Blood Cancer UK OA policy applies to:

• Original research articles accepted by peer-reviewed journals that acknowledge full or partial Blood Cancer UK funding.

How do I comply?

• Electronic copies of articles covered by their policy must be made available through Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC) within six months of the publisher's official date of final publication.
• Blood Cancer UK expects researchers to make their work openly accessible, either by self-archiving or publishing open access.
• A Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC-BY) is encouraged.

Publishing open access in a journal or publishing platform

Authors are recommended to publish in a journal fully covered by one of our existing publisher agreements. 

Use our search tool to check if a particular journal is covered.

If your chosen journal is not covered by an agreement, Blood Cancer UK will support open access publishing by providing funds to cover article processing charges (APCs). 

Blood Cancer UK will award the funds directly, contributing up to £2,000 toward each APC.

If approved, the article must be made immediately open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence and deposited in Europe PMC or PubMed Central.

The article must acknowledge Blood Cancer UK as a funder and accurately cite its grant reference number(s).

Procedure

Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, email requests to research@bloodcancer.org.uk and include the following details:

• The name of the grant-holding author or the author employed on the grant;
• The name of the Host Institution;
• Blood Cancer UK Grant reference of project(s);
• The name of the Journal;
• The amount requested for APC (up to max of £2,000);
• If the project is Co-Funded.
