The Parkinson's UK open access policy (PDF, 330KB) applies to:
- Original research articles published in peer-reviewed journals that acknowledge funding from Parkinson's UK
It does NOT extend to:
- Editorials
- Letters
- Commissioned reviews
- Scholarly monographs
- Conference proceedings, or
- Book chapters
How do I comply?
Parkinson's UK grantholders can publish any of our funded research for free on Health Open Research, including research articles, data and software articles, systematic reviews, and study protocols.
Alternatively, authors can comply with Parkinson's UK policy by choosing one of these two options:
- Self-archive their publication in Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC) within six months of publication, or
- Publish in a fee-based open-access journal, include the open access costs in the financial schedules for reimbursement by Parkinson's UK, and deposit the article in Europe PMC within six months of publication.
All in-scope outputs must acknowledge Parkinson's UK as the funder and cite the unique grant reference number.
All outputs funded by Parkinson's UK must be openly licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY).
Publishing open access in a journal or publishing platform
Authors are recommended to publish in a journal fully covered by one of our existing publisher agreements.
Use our search tool to check if a particular journal is covered.
If your chosen fully open access journal is not covered by an agreement, Parkinson's UK encourages grant applicants to include open access costs in the finance schedule of research grant applications.
Authors funded by Parkinson's UK can use any remaining grant funds to cover APCs, or email Parkinson’s UK to discuss their circumstances.
