Open Science is a legal obligation under Horizon Europe (PDF - 2261KB).
All beneficiaries are required to ensure open access to peer-reviewed scientific publications related to their results.
How do I comply?
To comply with Horizon Europe policy, authors should:
- self-archiving the publication's final Version of Record or Accepted Manuscript in Pure by its publication date, with the following metadata:
- publication (author(s), title, date of publication, publication venue);
- Horizon Europe or Euratom funding;
- grant project name, acronym and number;
- licensing terms;
- persistent identifiers for the publication, the authors involved in the action and, if possible, for their organisations and the grant
- ensure the deposited publication is openly licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY), or a licence with equivalent rights
- ensure information is given via the repository about any tools and instruments needed to validate the conclusion of the scientific publication
For monographs and other long-form outputs, the licence may exclude commercial uses and derivative works (e.g. CC BY-NC, CC BY-ND).
Publishing open access in a journal or Open Research platform
Authors are recommended to publish in a journal fully covered by one of our existing publisher agreements.
Use our search tool to check if a particular journal is covered.
If your chosen fee-based fully open access journal is not covered by an agreement, the article processing charge (APC) is eligible for reimbursement by Horizon Europe.
